This critical narrative review synthesises research at the intersection of management, entrepreneurship and Management Information Systems (MIS), with particular attention to digital transformation, organisational competitiveness and socioeconomic development. A targeted, relevance-based search of scholarly literature published primarily from 2013 to 2026, supplemented by foundational theoretical works, was undertaken across major scholarly databases and publisher-indexed sources. The retained literature was analysed thematically around digital capabilities, entrepreneurial action, innovation, competitiveness, ecosystems, inclusion, governance and sustainability. The synthesis indicates that digital technologies can enable opportunity recognition, strategic decision-making, innovation and organisational adaptation, but outcomes are conditional rather than automatic. Organisational capabilities, ecosystem relationships, infrastructure, skills, governance and institutional context shape whether digital resources are converted into value. The review further identifies tensions involving unequal access, cybersecurity and ethical risks, capability erosion, platform dependence and the difficulty of sustaining advantage when technologies diffuse rapidly. The paper advances an integrative framework that connects MIS-enabled digital capabilities, entrepreneurial action and ecosystem conditions with innovation, organisational competitiveness and socioeconomic outcomes, while specifying research gaps for empirical validation.
